Pre-War Alfa Romeos Featured at 10th Anniversary Quail This Summer

Alfa-Romeo-6C-front-three-quarters-at-2011-Quail This summer will mark the tenth year the Quail has served as one of the most exclusive car enthusiasts’ gatherings at one of the most highly anticipated weeks in the auto industry—Pebble Beach. Held yearly at the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, Calif., the Quail features a selection of some of the rarest automobiles ever made for 3000 select guests and, in honor of its 10th anniversary, this year’s event will celebrate pre-war Alfa Romeos and the 50th anniversary of Iso Automobili, and feature its first-ever “Best of Show,” a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Spyder.

In years past, the Quail featured everything from Steve McQueen’s 1976 Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo to Carroll Shelby’s Corvette Italia prototype. As you can see in the gallery shot by our visual assets manager Brian Vance, last year’s show had vintage Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Alfas, and Aston Martins—among other brands. Automakers have even started debuting new cars at the show; in 2010 Bugatti unveiled the 268-mph Veyron Super Sport.

This year’s show will be no different. Among the featured vehicles will be the Quail’s first ever Best in Show (a gorgeous 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Spyder), an assortment of vehicles built by Italian automaker Iso (the manufacturer responsible for the Chevy and Ford V-8-powered Iso Griffo, and the Isetta), and vintage sports and racing motorcycles. This year’s Quail will also feature the last McLaren F1 GTR ever built, which will go up for auction during the show.

The show will offer test drives from the Land Rover Experience Driving School, helicopter rides to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and all the caviar and wine you could possibly want. Like to attend this year’s Quail? You’ll need to clear your social calendar on August 17—oh, and drop $450 on a ticket.
