With Steven Van Zandt being billed as a guest mentor, each of the Top 5 additionally performed a song from the 1960s in the first round.

Hollie came out first and belted out "River Deep, Mountain High" by Ike & Tina Turner. Steven Tyler said that she finally stepped out, as Jennifer Lopez felt the energy. Randy Jackson also liked it, but advised her to be less self conscious.

Phillip sang "The Letter" by The Box Tops. Randy loved it that the 21-year-old singer made the song his own. J.Lo did not know the song, so she wasn't sure if there was no melody. Steven indeed thought Phillip messed up the melody, but he could get away with it.

CCR's "Fortunate Son" was Skylar's choice and Randy said she delivered another great performance. J.Lo called it natural and fearless, gushing, "It's like you attack every single song." Steven also loved everything about it.

Before presenting another individual performance, the show presented a duet of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by Joshua and Phillip. Randy said it started slow, but it came alive and they delivered it, while J.Lo commented that the two seemed so nervous together.

Jessica then came out with her rendition of "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner, which divided the judges. J.Lo said it was great, but Steven thought the song wasn't meant for Jessica. Randy, meanwhile, said the performance was barely okay.

Joshua wrapped up the first round with a cover of The Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg". Steven said Joshua is one of the two best "Idol" singers ever, while J.Lo said he's a throwback from another era. Randy said the Louisiana boy could bring back R&B.

In the second round, Hollie came back on to the stage with a cover of "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis. J.Lo said it had a beautiful and intimate quality. Randy, meanwhile, believed Hollie is two for two that night.

Phillip chose "Time of the Season" by The Zombies. Steven said he's happy that Phillip sang this song, as J.Lo felt that it could be his song. Randy also loved it.

Before Skylar sang Dusty Springfield's "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", she teamed up with Jessica and Hollie to sing "Higher and Higher" by Jackie Wilson. Randy said the girls' performance sounded amazing, while J.Lo said it's a real treat to have them singing together.

Skylar also got rave reviews for her individual performance, with Randy calling it flawless and amazing. J.Lo said she could win the competition with a performance like that, and Steven pointed out that she gets better every time she sings.

Jessica sang "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker and she showed her beautiful voice once again, Steven commented. J.Lo also loved it, as Randy praised her for having an amazing talent level.

The judges were brought to their feet after Joshua sang "To Love Somebody" by The Bee Gees. J.Lo said he's one of the best singers in 50 years, while Randy said Joshua is one of the best ever on the show. Steven agreed with his fellow judges.
