After playing a sword-wielding princess in "Snow White and the Huntsman", Kristen Stewart will next be seen starring in another action film called "Cali". Variety broke the news that the "Twilight Saga" actress is set to topline the gritty indie movie, which is written by "30 Minutes or Less" scribe Michael Diliberti.
In addition to starring in it, Stewart will also serve as a producer. She will join Diliberti, Craig J. Flores and Zev Foreman in her first producing stint. Of what kind of character Stewart will portray, Flores said, "Kristen is a talented and dynamic actor, with a proven box office draw. Her role in 'Cali' will be edgy and sexy. It will no doubt push the envelope on the public's view of Kristen's wide-ranging abilities."
In "Cali", Stewart will play female lead Mya who is involved in a dangerous business with her boyfriend Chris. After selling a fake snuff film featuring her, the San Fernando Valley lovebirds run away with a bundle of cash.
Years later, Mya must "return from the dead" to save the sister she left behind in Cali, where she and her boyfriend must contend with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.
Set in Los Angeles, the action movie is expected to kick off production in late summer. The project, which is developed at Voltage Productions and New School Media, is still looking for a director.
"Cali" marks Stewart's return to her indie roots after starring in such films as "Welcome to the Rileys", "The Runaways" and "On the Road". The 22-year-old actress will soon be seen in Rupert Sanders' "Snow White" film, which opens in the U.S. on June 1. She will also return as Bella Swan in "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part II", which will be released on November 16.
